Position Overview CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to help governments across Lusophone Africa use advanced planning techniques (e.g., data-driven decision-making) to help drive catalytic reductions in malaria cases and deaths. This role has a primary focus on Angola and Mozambique, two of the highest-burden malaria countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This person should be passionate about solving ever-changing, complex problems to make a positive impact on the world around them and contribute to a healthy and productive work environment. As part of the Global Malaria Team, the Associate will provide support to government counterparts in Lusophone Africa, with a particular focus on Angola and Mozambique. Areas of support will include: costing malaria activities and interventions, conducting analysis to optimize the value of every dollar spent, and seeking funding to support malaria programming. This position reports to the Associate Director for Malaria Management, Strategy & Financing and will work in close collaboration with the CHAI Country Teams and Regional Technical Teams. This position is term-limited through November 2026. The Associate will bring outstanding analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, and the Associate must be able to work independently and have deep personal commitment to producing results. A background in finance or malaria is not required, but may be an advantage. The Associate will be expected to be fluent in Excel. Most of all, this position requires resourcefulness, tenacity, patience, humility, and high ethical standards. Responsibilities: D eveloping Excel-based budget and cost models for malaria interventions; C onducting analyses to map available funding to needs and identify resource gaps; Supporting prioritization and optimization of activities within funding envelope; D eveloping resource mobilization proposals for countries (e.g., from Global Fund); Supporting strategic and operational planning; Assist ing malaria programs identify and address impediments to funding absorption, activity implementation, and programmatic goals; Build ing strong relationships with stakeholders across CHAI, government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector at the regional, national, and subnational level; Facilitat ing coordination between government, partner, and internal stakeholders; Shar ing updates, best practices, and lessons learned; Travelling to remote regions with limited infrastructure and medical care; and Other responsibilities: as needed. Qualifications Essential: Professional-level fluency (verbal and written) in both Portuguese and English Bachelor's degree in Business , Policy, Public Health, International Development, or related field; 2 + years of working experience; High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Demonstrated excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills; Ability to oversee multiple work streams simultaneously, to set priorities, and to work independently and flexibly with a strong commitment to excellence in high-pressure situations and in remote settings; Exceptional written and oral communication skills; Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships in a challenging multicultural environment; and Willingness to travel (10-50% of time), particularly to Angola and Mozambique, including trips to rural areas.
